Bardsley For Mayor campaign takes to the skies over the weekend
Mayoral candidate Michael Bardsley used an old school aerial advertising tactic to broadcast his provocative "A Mayor Should Be Elected, Not Selected" message on Saturday.
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a retro "taildragger" plane from Northeast Aerial Advertising flew the Bardsley banner over the Greater Northampton area. Bardsley's message was seen at an elevation of 1,000 feet over Look Park, downtown, Route 10, the Pine Grove golf course, the Coolidge Bridge and up Route 9 to the Hampshire Mall.
Aerial advertising is another unconventional move in Bardsley's hard-hitting mayoral campaign against City Council president David Narkewicz. Many Northampton voters feel that Narkewicz's assumed occupancy of Room One in September due to Mayor Higgins's early resignation has given Narkewicz an unfair advantage in the race. That Narkewicz is reportedly Higgins's favored candidate adds further speculation that the mayor's office is effectively being handed off. Bardsley's slogan, which appeared on the banner, is "A Mayor Should Be Elected, Not Selected."
